Tova Sabel of UC Davis Captures Fifth Career Big West Player of the Week Honor

  • 8137Helping UC Davis to a perfect 4-0 start in league games, senior Tova Sabel has been tapped as Big West Player of the Week for Jan. 6. This is Sabel’s fifth career award, earning a pair of honors in each of the last two seasons. 
  • Sabel led the team in scoring in a home weekend, averaging 15.5 points per game with a 7-for-15 shooting clip from three-point range, as well as 7.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.5 blocks per game.  
  • In Thursday’s 81-37 win against Cal State Bakersfield, the guard put up a third 20-plus point game of the year with 21 points on 50 percent shooting to go along with six rebounds and three steals.  
  • Against CSUN on Saturday, the native of Stockholm, Sweden finished with 10 points, reaching double digits for the 10th straight contest. Despite taking a backseat in the scoring category, Sabel still contributed heavily both defensively and offensively, grabbing eight rebounds and blocking two shots to help lead the team to a 68-41 victory. 
  • Sabel currently ranks second in The Big West in points (15.1) and three-pointers (2.50) per game.
