The Big West’s top five teams will advance to the Big West Baseball Championship, with the winner earning an automatic berth in the NCAA Championship. The action begins at Noon on Wednesday, May 21 with a single-elimination game between the No. 4 and No. 5 seeds.
The remaining four teams will compete in a double-elimination format beginning on Thursday, May 22 when the winner of the single-elimination matchup takes on the No. 1 seed at 3 p.m, followed by the No. 2 vs. No. 3 seed matchup at 7 p.m.
There will be three games on Friday, May 23, contested at 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.
The championship will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 24. Should the team entering the championship contest without a loss in the tournament fall in the 3 p.m. contest, there will be a second matchup starting approximately 45 minutes following the conclusion of that contest to determine the 2025 Big West baseball champions.
All games are televised on ESPN+ with Steve Quis handling play-by-play duties alongside John Kentera.
Last season, UC Santa Barbara and UC Irvine finished first and second in the league standings, respectively, and participated in the NCAA Tournament. The Gauchos and Anteaters have combined for four of the previous five Big West regular season titles, with UCSB winning three and UCI with one. The one exception was in 2023, when UC San Diego won the league crown, but could not participate in the postseason due to NCAA transition rules. The Tritons are in their first year of being a full-fledged Division I member and are eligible for the postseason.
The 2025 event is just the sixth baseball championship in conference history and the first in 27 years. Fresno State claimed the PCAA Baseball Championship in 1985 powered by conference MVP and All-American Mark Gardner.
The event returned in 1995 when Cal State Fullerton claimed the Big West title on their way to winning the College World Series. Baseball America named this Titans squad the best college team of the 20th century and Golden Spikes winner Mark Kotsay as the Player of the Decade. The Titans’ victory in 1995 is the only time a No. 1 seed has claimed the Big West championship.
UNLV claimed the Big West crown in 1996 in what proved to be the 794th and final victory of legendary coach Fred Dallimore’s career with the Rebels.
The Titans became the first team to win two Big West championships in 1997, emerging from the No. 3 seed to upset top-seeded Long Beach State.
The third-seeded Dirtbags were not to be denied a year later when they scored an eye-popping 24 runs in the title contest. Led by All-Americans Paul Day and Termel Sledge, LBSU reached the College World Series for the fourth time in school history in 1998, earning Dave Snow NCAA Coach of the Year Honors in the process. The Big West baseball championship was discontinued after the 1998 season.
