Butterly Selected to Chair NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Oversight Committee

IRVINE, Calif. – Big West Commissioner Dan Butterly was selected to assume the role of chair of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Oversight Committee after a vote Wednesday afternoon by the NCAA Council Coordination Committee. A member of the Men’s Basketball Oversight Committee since 2021, Butterly will begin his expanded leadership role effective immediately.

“It is a great honor to be asked to serve as the chair of the Men’s Basketball Oversight Committee during this time of tremendous change in NCAA Division I athletics,” Butterly said. “I look forward to working collaboratively with my colleagues on keeping a focus on what is best for men’s basketball, enhancing the experience for student-athletes and continuing to grow interest in NCAA Basketball regionally, nationally and globally.”

Butterly assumes the MBOC chair just a year after UC Santa Barbara Athletic Director Kelly Barsky was selected to serve as chair of the Women’s Basketball Oversight Committee. Barsky continues her leadership of the WBOC through June of 2025.

Big West administrators currently hold two of the six NCAA Oversight Committee leadership spots.
