UC Santa Barbara's Gallagher Earns Two More All-America Nods, Checketts Named West Region Coach of the Year; Three From Big West Earn Team USA Roster Spots

With the conclusion of the 2024 College World Series, two more outlets released their All-America teams.

UC Santa Barbara starting pitcher Ryan Gallagher landed on the Baseball America and D1Baseball All-America teams. Combined with accolades from National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings and Perfect Game, the third-year Gaucho garnered All-America honors from all five major publications covering NCAA Division I baseball. Gallagher, the 2024 Big West Pitcher of the Year, was selected to the second team by Baseball America and third team by D1Baseball.

The redshirt sophomore went 10-1 with an ERA of 2.22 and WHIP of 0.84 over 14 appearances, all starts, and 89.0 innings for The Big West champion Gauchos. The Granite Bay, Calif., native led the league in ERA, WHIP, opponent batting average (.161) and hits allowed per nine innings (5.06) amongst starters. The Gaucho righty accumulated a conference fourth-most strikeouts (96) and fourth-best strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.84). Nationally, Gallagher is second in WHIP, seventh in ERA, fourth in hits allowed per nine innings and 12th in wins. Through two seasons, Gallagher’s career ERA of 2.72 ranks ninth in all of Division I.

UC Santa Barbara head coach Andrew Checketts was named the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/ATEC West Region Coach of the Year. It is a first such honor for Checketts, who guided the Gauchos to a Big West championship with a 26-4 conference mark and a 44-14 overall record. UC Santa Barbara was chosen as one of 16 regional hosts for the 2024 NCAA Baseball Championship. UC Santa Barbara was ranked 19th by D1Baseball and Perfect Game, 20th by Baseball America and 22nd by NCBWA and USA Today in each publications' final national poll.
