The Big West Promotes Blake Simon and Tyler Huntley

IRVINE, Calif. – Big West Commissioner Dan Butterly announced today the promotions of two current staff members, Blake Simon to Associate Commissioner for Compliance and Tyler Huntley to Assistant Commissioner for Championships. 
 
“Blake and Tyler have taken the lead in elevating their respective areas to be more forward-looking and focused on improving the student-athlete experience,” Commissioner Butterly said. “Their leadership, experience and commitment to serving all 11 member institutions in The Big West is a great benefit to our league and we look forward to seeing them thrive in expanded roles as the paradigm of college athletics continues to evolve.” 
 
Simon came to the Big West as Director of Institutional Services in August 2017 and was promoted to Assistant Commissioner for Compliance in January 2021. He plays a key role in the conference's compliance, legislation and governance efforts. Simon is the primary liaison to The Big West Faculty Athletics Representatives and academic advisors, in addition to serving as the sport administrator and championship liaison for Big West men’s and women’s tennis and men’s water polo. 
 
Simon previously held compliance roles at Vermont, Florida International and Tulane before joining The Big West. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 2008 and earned a Juris Doctorate from Tulane Law School in 2011.  
 
Tyler Huntley has served as Director of Championships at The Big West since September 2019. A former First Team All-Big West student-athlete in track & field and cross country, Huntley serves as sport administrator for cross country, beach volleyball and track and field. In addition to managing championships, Huntley oversees the administration of all conference schedules, serves as a liaison to the various official coordinators ensuring that all competitions are assigned and oversees The Big West awards program. Huntley also serves as the contact for institutional game management staff. 
 
Prior to The Big West, Huntley worked as the Director of Sport Operations for Cal Athletics and interned in the University of Washington's Olympic Operations department while obtaining his Masters in Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership.
