UCSD's Sumayah Sugapong Earns Season's Second Big West Player of the Week Award

  • 8138UC San Diego’s Sumayah Sugapong recorded a second Big West Player of the Week honor of the season, and third career nod, after helping the Tritons to a 23-point road victory.  

  • The sophomore guard finished one point shy of a career high with 24 points on 45 percent shooting to go along with a new career benchmark of seven assists in the 81-58 victory at California Baptist on Saturday, UCSD’s lone game of the week.  

  • Sugapong also led the team in steals (3) and tallied one block as the Tritons forced 17 turnovers in the program’s first Division I victory over CBU.  

  • The San Diego product currently ranks first in The Big West in assists average (3.5) and third in steals average (2.27).  As a team, UCSD is pacing the conference in turnovers forced per game (21.45) and rates 29th nationally in steals per game (12.2).
