Tova Sabel's Clutch Performance for UC Davis Leads to Final Big West Weekly Honor of the Season

  • Junior Tova Sabel helped UC Davis to a 2-0 week to close The Big West regular season to earn the final Big West Player of the Week award for the 2022-23 season. Sabel averaged 18.5 points on 54 percent shooting from the floor and 5.5 rebounds per game while defeating UC Santa Barbara and Long Beach State. 

  • Sabel contributed 12 points on five-of-six shooting with five steals, an assist, steal and block in Thursday’s road win against the Gauchos.  

  • On Saturday, the guard from Stockholm, Sweden, dropped a game-high 25 points with six three-pointers in the streak-stopping win over Long Beach State. The Aggies halted a 15-game winning streak for the Beach to secure a No. 4 seed for UC Davis. 

  • The Penn State transfer scored UC Davis’ final seven points, including back-to-back clutch three-pointers to seal the victory. 

  • Sabel has now recorded eight straight games in double figures heading into the postseason. The Aggies are set for the quarterfinal rematch against UC Santa Barbara in the 2023 Hercules Tires Big West Basketball Championships, presented by The Hawaiian Islands on Wednesday.
