This month, members of The Big West Student-Athlete Advisory Committee reflect on the importance of TItle IX in their own collegiate journeys and throughout their lives.
SAAC is a committee assembled to provide insight on the student-athlete experience, and meets separately on each of the 11 campuses throughout the year to plan, participate in and facilitate events for the student-athlete community. The Big West SAAC also offers input on the policies, rules and regulations that affect student-athletes’ lives on NCAA member institution campuses as well as organizing events and initiatives on a confererence-wide basis.. Nationally, each conference is represented on the Division I SAAC where committee members comment and react to legislative proposals, issues of interest and actions of the Division.
This spring, SAAC elected to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Title IX with The Big West through a video compilation. Edited by Long Beach State SAAC member and Big West video intern, Katie Dill, the Title IX on 9 video highlights men and women from Cal Poly, CSUN, Long Beach State, UC Davis, UC Irvine, and UC Santa Barbara as they address:
- positive female influences in their lives
- the improvement in diversity and inclusion on their campuses
- inspirational Title IX pioneers
- what they would like to see continuing to improve in the future
- advice for the next generation
