UC Riverside's Jamal Hartwell II Scores Weekly Honor with Career Effort

30290• UC Riverside guard Jamal Hartwell II averaged 23.0 points in two wins to earn The Big West Player of the Week honor, presented by Hercules Tires.

• It is the third time that a Highlander has won the weekly honor this season after Flynn Cameron (Nov. 28) and Zyon Pullin (Dec. 12) were honored earlier. The last time a school had three or more different Player of the Week honorees in a season was Cal State Fullertin in 2018-19. 

• Hartwell II had an efficient week, shooting 59 percent (13-of-22) from the field, 73 percent (8-of-11) from behind the arc and 92 percent (12-of-13) from the charity stripe.

• The graduate student compiled a career-high 30 points, with six made 3-pointers, Wednesday night in a 74-68 road win at UC San Diego. Hartwell II scored 19 of the 30 points in the second half and successfully led the Highlanders out of an 18-point deficit. The point guard also dished out three assists in the victory. 

• The Inglewood, Calif. native scored 16 points to propel UC Riverside to a 65-64 win, Saturday night at first-place UC Santa Barbara. It was the first win ever at UC Santa Barbara for the Highlander men's basketball program as they came into the game 0-24 all-time at the Thunderdome 

• UC Riverside is currently 12-6 overall and tied for second in The Big West standings with a 5-1 conference record. Hartwell II is averaging 8.4 points per game so far this season.
