Titans and Becerra Bashing
Cal State Fullerton tops the conference in many offensive categories including batting average (.302), slugging percentage (.428), doubles (56), home runs (25) and runs scored (206).   Cal State Fullerton is led by sophomore slugger Hannah Becerra who has picked up right where she left off last season. The 2021 All-American, Big West Freshman of the Year and Home Run Queen, currently leads the conference in on-base percentage (.486), OPS (1.147), RBI (33), home runs (8) and walks (28).

Also in the Titan lineup is the trio of sophomores Peyton Toto (.385/.435/.538, 16R, 18RBI, 2HR) and Megan Delgadillo (.383/.443/.421, 39R, 26SB), and junior Daisy Munoz (.341/.400/.532, 17R, 30RBI, 4HR).Munoz leads the conference in doubles (12), while Delgadillo’s 51 hits and 26 stolen bases puts her at the top of The Big West in those categories.

Toto took home this season’s first Field Player of the Week after slashing .692/.733/1.077 in five games on opening weekend with seven RBI, five runs and one home run. Delgadillo won the same award on Feb. 28 after hitting .438 (7-for-16) with three runs, three RBI and five stolen bases at the Mary Nutter Classic. Munoz earned the weekly honor  on March 14 after a weekend going 10-for-15 from the plate with four RBI in six games, including a pair of 3-for-3 marks.

Ace Anchors Aggies
UC Davis sophomore pitcher Kenedi Brown currently leads The Big West in ERA at 1.20 and innings pitched at 134.0 and is second in strikeouts with 168. Those numbers all rank in the top-25 nationally. In the series against CSU Bakersfield on April 2-3, Brown threw two complete games, for a total of 14.0 innings pitched with a 0.00 ERA. She accumulated 37 strikeouts and no walks, allowing only one hit in each game.

The righty has been named The Big West Pitcher of the Week three times this season. She won the season’s inaugural weekly accolade after throwing a pair of seven-inning complete games for a 1.00 ERA against Montana and Santa Clara. Brown won back-to-back honors after another week throwing two seven-inning complete games, sporting a 1.00 ERA and amassing 16 strikeouts against Fresno State. The Aggie ace won her third  on March 14 after tossing her first career no-hitter with 11 strikeouts and only one walk against Utah State.

With fellow sophomore Taylor Fitzgerald, the Aggies arguably have the best pitching duo in the conference. In 71 innings, Fitzgerald has a 2.86 ERA, sixth best in The Big West.

Triton Freshman Pitcher Cecil on Fire
UC San Diego freshman pitcher Jada Cecil has impressed so far, sporting an 12-3 pitching record with a 1.69 ERA in 116.0 innings of work. She has compiled 169 strikeouts, which would rank 20th in the nation if UC San Diego was eligible. The rookie righty got started right away, collecting 12 strikeouts in 5.0 innings against Nevada in her collegiate debut.

Cecil earned The Big West Freshman of the Week title three times. She earned her first on March 14 after going 2-0, collecting 24 strikeouts in 12 innings. The effort included a  seven-inning, 15 strikeout, one-run complete game performance against California Baptist. In a three-game series against CSU Bakersfield, Cecil collected 21 strikeouts in 13.0 innings pitched. She collected her second weekly freshman honor from the conference on March 28, after going 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 17 innings of work, amassing 21 strikeouts. She earned her third on April 4 after collecting 29 strikeouts with a 0.47 ERA in 15.0 innings of work against Hawai’i.

It was the 57th no-hitter recorded in this history of the Titan softball program. Sutherlin currently has an 8-4 pitching record with a 2.15 ERA, compiling 87 strikeouts in 78.0 innings pitched. The righty has collected three Pitcher of the Week awards from the conference so far this season (2/28, 3/21, 3/28).
