Ace Anchors Aggies
UC Davis sophomore pitcher Kenedi Brown currently leads The Big West in ERA at 1.20 and innings pitched at 134.0 and is second in strikeouts with 168. Those numbers all rank in the top-25 nationally. In the series against CSU Bakersfield on April 2-3, Brown threw two complete games, for a total of 14.0 innings pitched with a 0.00 ERA. She accumulated 37 strikeouts and no walks, allowing only one hit in each game.
The righty has been named The Big West Pitcher of the Week three times this season. She won the season’s inaugural weekly accolade after throwing a pair of seven-inning complete games for a 1.00 ERA against Montana and Santa Clara. Brown won back-to-back honors after another week throwing two seven-inning complete games, sporting a 1.00 ERA and amassing 16 strikeouts against Fresno State. The Aggie ace won her third on March 14 after tossing her first career no-hitter with 11 strikeouts and only one walk against Utah State.
With fellow sophomore Taylor Fitzgerald, the Aggies arguably have the best pitching duo in the conference. In 71 innings, Fitzgerald has a 2.86 ERA, sixth best in The Big West.
Triton Freshman Pitcher Cecil on Fire
UC San Diego freshman pitcher Jada Cecil has impressed so far, sporting an 12-3 pitching record with a 1.69 ERA in 116.0 innings of work. She has compiled 169 strikeouts, which would rank 20th in the nation if UC San Diego was eligible. The rookie righty got started right away, collecting 12 strikeouts in 5.0 innings against Nevada in her collegiate debut.
Cecil earned The Big West Freshman of the Week title three times. She earned her first on March 14 after going 2-0, collecting 24 strikeouts in 12 innings. The effort included a seven-inning, 15 strikeout, one-run complete game performance against California Baptist. In a three-game series against CSU Bakersfield, Cecil collected 21 strikeouts in 13.0 innings pitched. She collected her second weekly freshman honor from the conference on March 28, after going 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 17 innings of work, amassing 21 strikeouts. She earned her third on April 4 after collecting 29 strikeouts with a 0.47 ERA in 15.0 innings of work against Hawai’i.
Sutherlin No Hits CSU Bakersfield
Cal State Fullerton pitcher Myka Sutherlin threw a no-hitter in game one of the series against CSU Bakersfield on March 26, going seven innings with only one walk and nine strikeouts. It was the 57th no-hitter recorded in this history of the Titan softball program. Sutherlin currently has an 8-4 pitching record with a 2.15 ERA, compiling 87 strikeouts in 78.0 innings pitched. The righty has collected three Pitcher of the Week awards from the conference so far this season (2/28, 3/21, 3/28).
Titans Down Two Ranked in Non-Conference Play
Cal State Fullerton took down two ranked opponents in its non-conference slate with wins over No. 8 Arizona, 1-0, and No. 18 Northwestern, 9-8, both at the Mary Nutter Classic.
