Ila Lane had a lot to do with UC Santa Barbara’s perfect 2-0 start out of the gate, as the senior averaged 16.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game over the Gauchos’ first two contests against a pair of West Coast Conference foes. Lane shot an efficient 15-of-21 from the floor for a .714 field goal percentage en route to Big West Player of the Week accolades.

In last Monday night’s season opener at Santa Clara (73-61), the veteran post player went for a double-double of a team-high 17 points and game-high 11 boards, seven of them on the offensive glass.

On Thursday night in UC Santa Barbara’s home opener versus Pepperdine (71-63), Lane went 8-for-9 from the floor and shared the game high of 16 points to go with a team-best six more rebounds.

Lane is now a six-time Big West Player of the Week, having earned three awards during the 2019-20 season (Dec. 2, Feb. 10 and Feb. 24) as The Big West Freshman of the Year, and two more a year ago (Dec. 6 and Dec. 27). The Moraga native made the All-Big West First Team as a freshman and the second team last season. Lane was a preseason All-Big West pick for the second time ahead of this 2022-23 campaign.
