The Big West has announced Kaiber Takamiya as the Assistant Director of Strategic Communications.
Takamiya joins The Big West after serving four years as the Athletics Communications Assistant at Cal State Dominguez Hills. He was the media contact and oversaw the coverage of various teams as well as holding gameday management responsibilities for the Toros’ athletics department.
“I am excited to welcome Kaiber Takamiya to The Big West,” said Commissioner Dan Butterly. “His skills and creativity make him a great complement to The Big West and I look forward to seeing a new and fresh approach to our storytelling.”
Prior to CSUDH, Takamiya held similar positions at his alma mater Cal State San Marcos, and at UC San Diego while the Tritons were still competing in Division II. He got his start in collegiate athletics as a student intern for the sports information office at Cal State San Marcos.
Takamiya has spent time in the past covering high school sports for The Orange County Register and the now defunct North County Times.
Takamiya graduated from Cal State San Marcos with a bachelor’s degree in communication and has an associate’s degree in social sciences from Fullerton College. He competed on the cross country and track & field teams for both schools. Additionally, he was the sports editor for the student newspaper at Fullerton College, The Hornet.
"I am very excited to be a part of The Big West,” said Takamiya. “The opportunity to work for a top up-and-coming Division I conference was one that I could not pass on. I am looking forward to creatively sharing the phenomenal stories of the student-athletes, coaches and alumni of The Big West.”
Takamiya is set to join The Big West team on Aug. 23.
