Awards Keep Rolling In For McLaughlin

UC Santa Barbara senior guard JaQuori McLaughlin added to his list of accolades as he was tabbed an Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American this week.

A recipient of Big West Player of the Year honors, McLaughlin also earned the Big West Tournament Most Valuable Player award after averaging 20.3 points in three wins at Las Vegas last week. On Tuesday, he was selected to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District 9 Second Team.

The Tacoma, Wash. native ranks second in Big West scoring at 16.2 PPG. He also ranks in the conference top 10 for field goal percentage (7th | .489), assists per game (3rd | 5.2), free throw percentage (6th | .842), steals per game (6th | 1.6) and three-point field goal percentage (10th | .404).

McLaughlin has helped the Gauchos to a 22-4 record, the program’s first Big West regular season and tournament championships since 2011. UCSB earned the No. 12 seed in the West Region and will face Creighton in the NCAA Tournament First Round on Saturday.

He is just the third player in school history to amass career totals of 1,000 or more points and 300 or more assists, while helping UCSB to school records for consecutive wins (13), consecutive conference wins (11), consecutive conference true road wins (7) and consecutive home wins (17 over the last two seasons).

McLaughlin is the first UCSB player to garner All-American recognition since Alan Williams in 2013-14. He also joins former Gauchos and Big West competitors Orlando Johnson (2009-10 and 2010-11), Alex Harris (2007-08), Lucius Davis (1991-92), Eric McArthur (1989-90), Carrick DeHart (1989-90) and Brian Shaw (1986-87 and 1987-88) on the list.
