KICKOFF TIME

And Then There Was Twelve
Cal State Fullerton is 6-0 to open the season – matching the program’s best start since 2000 – and has outscored those opponents 13-4.

The Titans have scored multiple goals in six consecutive games, a feat the program has not accomplished since the 2000 club did so in seven straight contests.

As a result, CSF is one of just 12 remaining unbeaten and untied teams across Division I – the others being No. 1 Wake Forest (5-0-0), No. 2 Stanford (5-0-0), No. 3 Georgetown (5-0-0), No. 5 Virginia (4-0-0), No. 6 Saint Mary’s (5-0-0), No. 7 Clemson (5-0-0), No. 8 SMU (6-0-0), No. 9 St. John’s (6-0-0), No. 24 Rutgers (5-0-0), Missouri State (4-0-0) and Navy (5-0-0).

Poll Appeal
The Big West has two teams positioned among the top 25 in all three major polls. Cal State Fullerton is ranked as high as No. 14 by Top Drawer Soccer, rising nine spots in that poll this week. The Titans also are ranked No. 16 by Soccer America and No. 24 by College Soccer News.

CSUN is also represented in the rankings, appearing this week at No. 23 in United Soccer Coaches, No. 22 in Top Drawer Soccer and No. 21 in Soccer America. The Matadors have entered the United Soccer Coaches top 25 for the first time since the Aug. 6, 2014, preseason poll back when the organization was known as the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

High Octane Offense
CSUN toppled then-No. 8 Washington last week and are 4-1-1 overall having scored multiple goals in all six games. It is the longest consecutive multiple goals streak for the program since opening the 2013 season with eight in a row. The Matadors rank No. 3 in the country with 20 goals scored and No. 4 in goals per game (3.33).

Take On All Comers
Big West schools posted an 11-4-0 record last week with three of those wins coming against top 25 clubs. CSUN defeated No. 8 Washington, while both UC Riverside and CSF dispatched No. 14 Florida Gulf Coast.

The league’s cumulative non-conference record is an astounding 29-13-3 (.678). It is the Big West’s best overall performance since 2014 when the league was 19-15-9 (.547) through four weeks.
