2019 Big West Spring All-Academic Team
The Big West Spring All-Academic Team included 451 student-athletes, the third straight year the total has topped 400.
The 451 recipients were honored in the sports of baseball, softball, beach volleyball, men’s volleyball, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s track & field, and women’s water polo. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, student-athletes are required to maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average, complete one full year at the member institution prior to the season for which the award is being received (at least a sophomore academically), and competed in at least 50 percent of their team’s contests.
All nine full member institutions had impressive representation, with Cal Poly and Hawai‘i tying for conference-high honors with 60 apiece. Long Beach State and UC Davis tallied 56 each, while UC Irvine had 47 and CSUN 46. UC Santa Barbara had 43 all-academic honorees. Cal State Fullerton garnered 39 certificates and UC Riverside 32. UC San Diego, an associate member in men’s volleyball, placed five student-athletes on the team. CSU Bakersfield and Sacramento State, associate members in beach volleyball, put four and three members on the team, respectively.
Women’s track and field had the largest contingent of all-academic honorees with 108. Men’s track and field tallied 60 honorees. Forty-nine student-athletes were honored in softball, 43 in baseball and 40 in women’s water polo. The remainder of the list included women’s tennis (34), men’s volleyball (27), women’s golf (27), beach volleyball (26), men’s tennis (24) and men’s golf (13).
The 451 representatives comes on the heels of a record 456 in 2018 and 422 in 2017.
