UC Riverside junior Jannon Otto notched her first career Big West Women’s Basketball Player of the Week award thanks to a career-best scoring performance in a one-point victory.
• Otto is the first Highlander to earn Player of the Week honors since Simone DeCoud on Dec. 19, 2016.
• Otto’s career-high 23 points on 8-of-10 shooting propelled the Highlanders to a 65-64 victory over New Mexico State on Friday. After missing her first shot, Otto connected on eight of her last nine field goals.
• The 6-foot guard also sank all seven of her free throw attempts.
• Otto added six rebounds, two assists and three steals in 37 minutes of activity.
• She scored the game-winning bucket with 1:47 to play.
• Otto had a prolific second quarter to help UCR climb out of an early 25-14 first quarter hole. Otto was 3-for-3 from the field and 5-for-5 at the free throw line as the Highlanders went into halftime with a 39-36 lead, outscoring the Lobos 25-11 in the frame.
• Otto has made 15 consecutive free throws dating back to Dec. 15 against Eastern Washington.
