• Joe Mooney garnered his first career Big West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honor as the UC Davis senior broke a program Division I scoring record and nearly set another.
• The 6-foot-3 guard singlehandedly outscored Northern Arizona in the second half of last Tuesday’s road game to help the Aggies to an 85-66 victory. Mooney dropped 31 of his career-high 35 points in the second stanza, outscoring the Lumberjacks 31-30 for the period.
• Mooney’s 31 points in the second half represent the most scored by any UC Davis player, in one half, in the program’s Division I era.
• In addition, his 35-point total is the second-highest in the school’s D-I era, trailing only Corey Hawkins and his 40-point effort at Hawai‘i in 2013.
• Mooney exploded for a career-high 12 field goals made (on 16 attempts) and knocked down a season-high five threes against Northern Arizona. After halftime, Mooney hit 11 of 13 from the floor, 5 of 6 from three and all four shots at the line.
• He also had a season-high seven rebounds and two steals versus the Lumberjacks.
• Mooney also contributed to a 66-57 victory at home over Northern Illinois, finishing with a game-high 17 points on 6 of 10 shooting to go along with six rebounds.
• The Wauconda, Ill. native hit three more treys against Northern Illinois and finished the week 8-of-8 at the line.
• Mooney scored 52 points for the week – equating to 34 percent of the team’s offense. He shot 69.2% (18-of-26) from the field and 57.1% (8-of-14) from three-point land.
