Jenna Curtan and Taylor Troost helped their teams post identical 4-1 records to earn this week’s softball honors.
Curtan Hits .727 With Four Multi-Hit Games
UC Riverside junior Jenna Curtan (Roseville, Calif./Woodcreek HS) had a standout performance in helping the Highlanders finish 4-1 and capturing Big West Softball Field Player of the Week accolades.
The center fielder hit .727 (8-for-11) with an .813 on-base percentage and 1.000 slugging percentage as the Highlanders also won three of their four games at the UCR-hosted Amy S. Harrison Classic.
Retired just once in her last nine at bats on the weekend, Curtan produced four straight multi-hit games, scored five times and had six RBI. She also stole a pair of bases.
Curtan went 2-for-2 with two runs scored, a double and four RBI as the Highlanders clobbered Siena, 13-0, in the opener of the Amy S. Harrison Classic. She later finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI triple in a 6-5 triumph over UTEP.
In UCR’s final game of the tourney, a 12-4 decision over Siena, Curtan was a perfect 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI.
Curtan walked once in each of the five games.

Troost Tosses Ten Unblemished Innings For CSUN
CSUN sophomore Taylor Troost (San Bernardino, Calif./Citrus Valley HS) produced a win and two saves in three appearances at the Libby Matson Tournament in Stockton, garnering Big West Softball Pitcher of the Week honors.
The right-hander did not allow a run in 10 innings of work. She yielded just two hits and three walks while striking out six.
Troost tossed a complete game shutout against tournament host Pacific, finishing with a one-hitter and a season-high six strikeouts in a 2-0 win.
Her other two appearances came in relief as she slammed the door shut on Seattle both times. In a 5-2 victory, Troost threw two innings of scoreless ball for her first save of the year.
In a 3-0 triumph in the tourney finale, Troost scattered a hit in a scoreless frame for her second save of the weekend, and the third of her career.
Opponents hit just .061 against Troost for the week.
