Big West Women's Water Polo Release No. 7
BIG WEST AT A GLANCE
UC IRVINE HOSTS INVITATIONAL
UC Irvine welcomes 16 of the top collegiate women’s water polo programs this weekend in the Irvine Invitational that will take place at Anteater Aquatics Center and Corona Del Mar High School. Five Big West programs will compete at the Tournament as 16 top-25 teams travel to the west coast. UC Irvine recorded the highest finish of the league’s programs last year, coming in at No. 5. Hawai‘i brought home a sixth place finish while CSUN finished in 8th. UC Davis finished in 11th while UC Santa Barbara finished in 14th.
DAVIS RETAINS TOP 5 RANKING
UC Davis received its second top-5 ranking in the sixth Collegiate Water Polo Association poll that was released earlier this week. The Aggies match Hawaii’s two top-5 rankings from the start of the 2016 season and look to be the first Big West squad to pull a top-5 spot three weeks in a row.
BALANCED DOMINANCE FOR BEACH
Enroute to Long Beach State’s perfect 2-0 weekend, 12 different 49ers scored in their two matches. Freshman Tori Morrissey led the squad with five scores of her own. LBSU takes a three-game win-streak into the UCI Invitational, its best of the season.
AGGIES APPROACH 400
UC Davis looks for its 397th victory of the varsity era as the 395th and 396th wins came in Saturday’s doubleheader sweep. All 396 Ws belong to coach Jamey Wright.
