Austin March was a force at the plate and Tyler Brashears turned in a career-best effort from the mound as the Big West baseball weekly award winners.

March Leads Aggie Offensive Surge

UC Davis senior Austin March (Redwood City, Calif./Junipero Serra HS) captured Big West Baseball Field Player of the Week honors after leading his team offensively with a .500 average and 1.000 slugging percentage en route to a 4-0 record.

March helped the Aggies to a mid-week win over San Jose State and a sweep of Pacific in non conference play.  He logged at least one hit and a run scored in all four games.

In the 6-5 win over the Spartans, March went 2-for-4 with a run scored, and drove home the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth with a walk-off singles.

The outfielder scored the tying run in the first and later added a game-tying sacrifice fly in the sixth to help UC Davis to a series-opening 4-3 win over Pacific Friday.  He went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks in game two, a 5-4 victory, before punishing Tiger pitching in the finale.

March blasted a pair of home runs, scored three times and had five RBI in the 11-5 victory Sunday.

For the week, he scored six runs and knocked in seven more as he played a role in half of the Aggies’ offensive production.

Others nominated: Timmy Richards (Cal State Fullerton); Yusuke Akitoshi (CSUN); Luke Rasmussen (Long Beach State); Adonis Morrison (UC Riverside); Cameron Newell (UC Santa Barbara)

Brashears Shuts Down Potent UC Santa Barbara Offense

With little wiggle room for error, Hawai‘i junior Tyler Brashears (Lake Forest, Calif./Saddleback CC) earned Big West Baseball Pitcher of the Week as he handcuffed the conference’s top offense in a 1-0 victory.

Brashears stymied No. 7 UC Santa Barbara for 7.2 scoreless innings, surrendering just three hits and one walk, and a sixth-inning run held up for the right-hander.

He held the Gauchos to just .120 hitting in the game and struck out five.  Brashears maneuvered out a bases loaded jam in the sixth as UH defeated its highest ranked opponent since topping No. 4 Cal State Fullerton in 2013.

Brashears lowered his ERA to 1.97, which is the fourth-best in the Big West.

Others nominated: Taylor Chris (Cal Poly); Thomas Eshelman (Cal State Fullerton); Calvin Copping (CSUN); Logan Lombana (Long Beach State); Spencer Koopmans (UC Davis); Kevin Sprague (UC Riverside); Dillon Tate (UC Santa Barbara)
