2015 NABC All-District Teams
The National Association of Basketball Coaches announced its All-District teams Friday, and three Big West standouts made the list.
UC Davis senior Corey Hawkins received All-District 9 First Team accolades, and he was joined by Second Team honorees Alan Williams of UC Santa Barbara and Long Beach State’s Mike Caffey.
Hawkins is the first Aggie to earn all-district recognition during the program’s Division I era. He gives the Big West Conference a first team representative for the seventh straight season.
A two-time conference scoring champion, Hawkins averaged 20.9 points per game this season, a figure that ranks him No. 7 nationally. The Goodyear, Ariz. native led the conference for most 20-point games (16) and 30-point games (3), including a season-high 34 points against Stanford in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament. In just three seasons at UC Davis, Hawkins finished his career as the school’s all-time No. 2 scorer with 1,694 points.
The 6-3 guard also will finish the 2014-15 campaign with a national three-point title as he sports a 48.8 (81-of-166) success rate. That mark also puts Hawkins at No. 9 in the Big West record book for best three-point field percentage in a single-season.
Williams, a 6-8 center from Phoenix, Ariz., concluded his UC Santa Barbara career with 1,732 points, 1,125 rebounds and 219 blocked shots. He finished No. 2 all-time on the school’s career scoring list, and his rebound and blocks totals place him No. 2 in the Big West career record book. With 19 points and 10 boards versus Oral Roberts in the first round of the College Basketball Invitational, Williams recorded his 50th career double-double, including his Big West-leading 17th of the season.
Nicknamed “Big Al,” the Gaucho is one of just five players in Big West history to collect both 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career. This is also the third career all-district selection for Williams, as he received a first team nod in 2013-14 and a second team citation in 2012-13. He joins former teammate Orlando Johnson (2009-12) as a three-time All-District 9 selection.
Caffey is a repeat second team all-district selection after producing his finest season as a 49er in his senior campaign. The 6-0 point guard averaged 16.2 points and 3.6 assists, and drained a team-best 62 three-pointers. He scored 20 points or more in 11 games, second-best in the Big West, and saved some of his best performances for teams that made this year’s NCAA Tournament field, including against BYU (26 points), Xavier (20 and 24), San Diego State (20), Texas (23) and UC Irvine (27).
The Corona, Calif. native finished his career as the school’s No. 6 all-time scorer (1,649), and ranked No. 3 in assists (457) and No. 5 in steals (178). He came up a mere rebound shy of being just the second player in LBSU history to record 1,500 points, 500 rebounds and 400 assists.
