UC Irvine sophomore Mokun Fajemisin (Lynwood, Wash./Lynwood HS) secured Big West Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors after leading the Anteaters to a victory over UC Riverside.
The 6-0 forward posted her seventh double-double of the year with 21 points and 13 rebounds in a 76-72 triumph over the Highlanders.
In meeting her career-best for points scored, Fajemisin drained a pair of free throws with four seconds left to cement the overtime victory for the Anteaters. She had pulled down an important defensive rebound before getting fouled and going to the line for the decisive free throws.
The 13 boards represented a game-high for Fajemisin, who was stellar from the charity stripe with nine makes in 10 attempts. She was 5-of-6 from the line in the second half to rally UCI from a 15-point deficit. She also recorded two steals and an assist.
