Senior Devonte Elliott (Paramount, Calif./Nevada) helped CSUN knock off a pair of Central Coast foes in earning Big West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors.

The 6-10 forward averaged 19.0 points, 9.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists as the Matadors won at UC Santa Barbara (74-63) and defeated Cal Poly at home (55-48).

Elliott also shot a sizzling 73.7 (14-of-19) percent from the floor and 90.0 (9-of-10) percent at the free throw line.

On Thursday night at the Thunderdome, Elliott erupted for a career-high 23 points in helping CSUN register its first road win of the year.  He also set career-bests with eight field goals made (in 12 attempts) and 12 rebounds, which secured his first career double-double.  Elliott also drained all six of his free throw attempts to keep the Gauchos from mounting a comeback.

Elliott finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot as the Matadors avenged last year’s loss to the Mustangs in the Big West Tournament championship game.  He connected on 6-of-7 floor shots and contributed to the defensive effort that limited Cal Poly to 48 points, the lowest offensive output by a Matador opponent this season.

Others nominated: Joel Awich (Cal Poly); Mike Caffey (Long Beach State); Corey Hawkins (UC Davis); Will Davis II (UC Irvine); Steven Thornton (UC Riverside)
