
UC Santa Barbara freshman Andrew Calica and Hawai‘i senior Scott Kuzminsky were named the Big West Baseball Field Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, as they helped their teams to winning performances.
UC Santa Barbara's Calica Hits. 588 In Sweep Of Wagner
UC Santa Barbara freshman Andrew Calica (Chula Vista, Calif./Eastlake HS) notched Big West Baseball Field Player of the Week honors as he hit .588 (10-for-17) in a four-game sweep of Wagner.
The outfielder was a force at the top of the Gaucho lineup as he recorded three consecutive three-hit games and hit safely in each contest. He also drove in at least one run in each of the first three games, chalking up five RBI for the week.
Calica went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI in the 8-4 win in the series opener. He had a 3-for-4 performance with two runs scored and two RBI in the game two 13-3 rout. In a 7-1 victory, Calica delivered three hits and two RBI while scoring another run. In the series finale, he swiped three bases and finished 1-for-3 with two runs scored.
For the week, Calica had a .611 on-base percentage and slugged .647.

Hawaii's Kuzminsky Earns Two Victories As Starter
Hawai‘i senior Scott Kuzminsky (Puyallup, Wash./Puyallup HS) earned Big West Baseball Pitcher of the Week honors as the winning pitcher with two strong starts against a pair of non-conference opponents.
The right-hander began the week with a complete game two-hit shutout of Nevada in a 1-0 victory on Monday. He pitched to the minimum number of batters, walking one and striking out three.
Kuzminsky returned to the mound on Sunday against UAB and nearly twirled another complete game. This time he lasted 8.2 innings, scattering seven hits and two runs in the 4-2 triumph. He exhibited great control again with just one walk and a career-high six strikeouts.
