
Offensive heroics, accurate shooting and career-high in assists propelled Hawai‘i junior Keith Shamburger (Los Angeles, Calif./San Jose State) to the Big West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week award. Shamburger shot 53.3% (8 of 15) from the field, 50.0% (6 of 12) from three-point range and 90.0% (9 of 10) at the stripe as the Rainbow Warriors posted back-to-back 90-point performances in road wins against UC Davis and UC Irvine.
He also provided heroics with a couple of buzzer beater shots while averaging 15.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 7.5 assists. He had 15 assists to just three turnovers.
In a 90-73 triumph against the Aggies, Shamburger tallied 14 points, four rebounds and four assists. He drained a career-high four three-pointers, including one at the halftime buzzer, as UH’s 17-point margin of victory was its largest on the road in 11 years.
Shamburger was instrumental in helping the Rainbow Warriors overcome a double-digit second halftime deficit to hand UCI a 90-86 defeat in overtime. The 5-11 guard collected his first double-double with 17 points and a UH career-high 11 assists. In addition to hitting all but one of his 10 foul attempts, Shamburger sank a leaning three-pointer with two defenders draped on him with less than a second remaining to force overtime. He later hit three crucial free throws in the extra period.
