A dominating effort from Stephen Maxwell spurred Cal State Northridge to a 2-0 league record and anointed  the junior Big West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.

Maxwell averaged 25.0 points and 7.0 rebounds while shooting 75.0 (18 of 24) percent from the field as the Matadors dispatched UC Davis (89-77) and Hawai‘i (79-78) at home.

He recorded his sixth and seventh 20-point games of the season to help CSUN race out to a 2-0 Big West start for the first time since 2007-08.  Maxwell’s 26 points against the Aggies were two short of his season-high.  He made all 10 free throw attempts to tie a school single-game record for free throw percentage (1.000).

Against the Rainbow Warriors, the 6-7 forward notched 24 points and 10 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the year and 22nd of his career.  He connected on 10-of-14 from the field and went 4-of-4 at the charity stripe.

Maxwell, who has shot 50 percent or better in seven straight games, is hitting at a .613 clip for the season.   That mark is currently the third-best for a single-season at CSUN.

Maxwell also has hit 21 consecutive free throws after sinking all 14 tries successfully last week.

Others nominated:
Chris Eversley (Cal Poly); Michael Williams (Cal State Fullerton); Travis Hammonds (Long Beach State); Chris McNealy (UC Irvine)
