Sharpshooting Sydnee Fipps (Mariposa, Calif./Yosemite HS) utilized her long distance prowess to help UC Davis to a conference road split and gain herself the Big West Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor.
Fipps scored 12 straight points in the second half against UC Irvine – all on three-pointers – to help the Aggies to a come-from-behind win Thursday. The 5-10 forward totaled 19 points on 5-of-9 shooting from three-point range and tied for team-high rebounding honors with seven. Fipps hit a shot that triggered 13 consecutive Aggie points over the final 5:03 that transformed a 43-34 deficit into a 47-43 triumph Thursday.
In Saturday's 66-54 loss to Long Beach State, Fipps again pressured the opposition from long range. She knocked down four three-pointers (in seven attempts) to finish with 17 points. Fipps again tied for the team lead in rebounds with six and added an assist and a steal to her stat line.
For the week, the sophomore shot 50.0 (11 of 22) from the field and 56.3 percent (9 of 16) from beyond the arc. She led the Aggies in field goals, three-pointers, rebounds and scoring in their two games.
