A scoring rampage from UC Riverside sophomore Brittany Crain (Moreno Valley, Calif./John W. North HS) earned her Big West Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors.

The 5-8 guard averaged 30.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.5 steals in wins at San Jose State (105-74) and Santa Clara (90-80).  She shot 67.9 (19 of 28) percent from the floor, 55.6 percent (5 of 9) from distance and 81.0 (17 of 21) percent at the free throw line for the week.

Crain opened the week with 23 points, four rebounds and three assists against the Spartans.  She knocked down 10 of 15 floor shots, including a pair of three-pointers.

Against the Broncos, Crain erupted for a career-high 37 points in the 10-point overtime victory.
It represented the highest offensive output in a game since Donna Hammond-Mares scored 38 on Jan. 16, 1982 against Cal State Los Angeles.  She made 16 free throws (in 20 attempts), setting a UCR program best for most made free throws in a game, while tying the mark for attempts.  Crain also canned 9 of 13 field goals with three of those coming from long distance.

Crain helped UCR improve its record to 2-2 on the season as she led the team in scoring both games.

Others nominated: Cinnamon Lister (Cal State Northridge); Raven Benton (Long Beach State); Jennifer Tsuromoto (UC Irvine); Nicole Nesbit (UC Santa Barbara); Kamilah Jackson (Hawai‘i)
