UC Davis junior Corey Hawkins and UC Santa Barbara junior Alan Williams were selected to the 2013-14 CollegeInsider.com Lute Olson and Lou Henson Preseason All-American Teams, respectively.
Hawkins, a 6-3 guard from Goodyear, Ariz., captured the Big West scoring championship after averaging 20.3 points per game in 2012-13. He earned the Big West Newcomer of the Year award as well as first team all-conference honors. Among his top performances, Hawkins scored 40 points at Hawai‘i and broke a 34-year old single-game school scoring record in the process. The Arizona State led the Big West with 15 games of 20 points or more and concluded the campaign with his selection to the Lou Henson Mid-Major All-America Team.
The Lute Olson Award is presented annually to the nation's top Division I player in honor of the former University of Arizona coaching great who led the Wildcats to 23 consecutive NCAA Tournaments and a National Championship in 1997.
Hawkins is one of six players from a mid-major conference to be named to the Lute Olson Preseason All-America Team, joining Billy Baron (Canisius), Tyler Haws (BYU), Cleanthony Early (Wichita State), Jake Odum (Indiana State) and Kevin Pangos (Gonzaga) on the list.
Williams (Phoenix, Ariz./North HS) emerged as one of the top post players in the Big West in 2012-13, becoming the first Gaucho in 23 years to average a double-double at 17.1 points and a league-best 10.7 rebounds per game. The 6-7 center earned All-Big West First Team and National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District 9 Second Team accolades. Williams topped the Big West with 15 double-doubles and posted 64 blocked shots (2.3 bpg) that ranked second among conference players.
The Lou Henson Award is presented annually to the top Mid-Major player in Division I college basketball. The award is named in honor of Lou Henson who was the winningest coach at both Illinois and New Mexico State, and is one of only 12 coaches in NCAA history to take two schools to the Final Four.
