In collaboration with ESPN and the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority, the Big West Conference’s 10-game distribution package on ESPN3 concludes this week as a crucial doubleheader between Long Beach State and Pacific will be showcased at the 49er Softball Complex.
The online network will stream Saturday's doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. (PDT) with Josh Suchon providing the play-by-play. Fans can access the stream at
www.watchespn.com.
The 10-game ESPN3 package finishes as the two prominent Big West programs are fighting for the regular season championship and the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. Long Beach State (26-22, 14-4) owns a two-game lead on Pacific, UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara entering the final weekend of Big West play. The 49ers need two victories or one win coupled with a UC Santa Barbara loss to qualify automatically for the NCAA Tournament. Pacific (33-18, 12-6) can become the Big West automatic qualifier with a sweep of LBSU and one loss each from UCD and UCSB.
The ESPN3 package began on Friday, Nov. 25 with a women’s volleyball match between Cal State Fullerton and Hawai‘i from Titan Gym. Since then, seven other contests have been featured on ESPN3, most recently two baseball games between UC Davis and future Big West member Hawai'i.
The inclusion of games on ESPN3 extends ESPN’s current five-year deal with the Big West, which continues through the 2012-13 season.
ESPN3 is currently available in more than 70 million households through computers, tablets and smart phones and in 25 million households via Xbox gaming consoles.
