UC Irvine junior Jeff Stephens and UC Davis senior Dayne Quist outshined the competition in earning Big West Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week honors, respectively.
Stephens Hits .455 To Help UC Irvine To Three Wins
UC Irvine junior Jeff Stephens (Novato, Calif./Sierra College) recorded multiple hits in four of five games, batted .455 and helped the team to three victories in a Big West Baseball Player of the Week winning performance.
The outfielder had a team-leading 10 hits in 22 at bats as the Anteaters won a single game against Washington State and two of three versus Nevada.
Stephens had a season-best 3 for 5 effort and scored the game-winning run in Tuesday’s contest against the Cougars. He began the Nevada series going 2 for 4 with an RBI and went 2 for 4 again the next day as UCI tied the series with a 6-1 victory.
Stephens posted a pair of doubles with a run scored in the final game of the Wolf Pack series, a 6-5 win in 10 innings.
He has now tallied multiple hits in six of the last seven games.

Quist Dominates San Jose State With Complete Game Four-Hit Shutout
UC Davis senior Dayne Quist (Santa Cruz, Calif./Santa Cruz HS) handcuffed San Jose State in a dominating four-hit complete game shutout to capture Big West Baseball Pitcher of the Week accolades.
The southpaw threw his second consecutive complete game and first career shutout to improve to 3-0 on the season. He had a no-hitter through 5 2/3 innings before yielding a base hit in the sixth.
Quist kept the Spartans from reaching second base for almost the entire game until they did so in the eighth inning. He finished the game with six strikeouts, facing just four batters over the minimum and using only 113 pitches in the win.
For the season, Quist owns a sparkling 1.88 ERA and is holding opponents to a paltry .159 average. He has fanned 39 batters in 38.1 innings of work.
