Pacific grabs their third weekly recognition this year as Nikki Armagost is named Big West softball Player of the Week and UC Davis’ freshman, Justine Vela tosses her way to the Big West Pitcher of the Week recognition.
Armagost Goes the Distance
Pacific’s Armagost managed to lead the Tigers to a 5-1 record last week, including a 4-1 showing at the Diamond Devil Invitational for tournament play. This is Armagost’s first recognition as player of the week not including her 2011 Big West Offensive Player of the Year award, while collecting four career pitcher of the week honors.
The Andover, Kan. native had three home runs on the week including a blast off the Sun Devils Dallas Escobedo, where she went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and 1 run. Armagost collected a .455 batting average for the week with a .478 on base percentage to bring in 9 RBI and scoring 7 runs. The stellar performance on offense was mimicked with a perfect performance in the field, playing first and pitching one contest.
Armagost went 10-for-22 with three home runs, one double and 9 RBI in her six games for the Tigers.
Others nominated: Andri Martinez (Cal State Fullerton), Hannah De Gaetano (Long Beach State), Kelly Harman (UC Davis), Kayla White (UC Riverside), Allison Taylor (UC Santa Barbara).

She allowed only four hits with 13 strikeouts in the 7-0 win to start to the tournament.

To finish off her weekend performance, the freshman pitched her second complete game of the tournament with a no-hitter and seven strikeouts against Idaho, just one walk and a single error away from a perfect game.
