Kwame Vaughn (Oakland, Calif./University of San Francisco) had one of the best single-game scoring performances in Cal State Fullerton history to garner Big West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week accolades.
Vaughn erupted for a career-high 37 points on 11 of 15 shooting to go along with six rebounds and six assists as the Titans drubbed UC Santa Barbara, 99-86, in a nationally televised ESPNU contest on Saturday. The 37 points equalled the fifth-best scoring game in Titan history. It also was the highest total in the Big West and is tied for No. 22 nationally this season.
The 6-3 guard also made five three-pointers (in seven attempts) and converted all 10 of his free throw opportunities as the Titans rallied back from an early 12-point deficit.
CSF began the week with an 83-61 victory over Cal Poly on Thursday. Vaughn flirted with a triple-double, finishing with 14 points, seven rebounds and nine assists.
For the week, Vaughn averaged 25.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 7.5 assists per game. He shot 58.6% (17 of 29) from the field and 50.0% (7 of 14) from three-point territory.
Vaughn leads the Big West in assists (4.2 apg) and ranks fifth in scoring (16.2 ppg) for the season.
