Cal State Fullerton's Michael Lorenzen and UC Santa Barbara's Andrew Vasquez were named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association (NCBWA) annual Preseason All-America list, as announced by the NCBWA.  The Titan utility player grabbed second-team honors and the Gaucho hurler received third-team accolades.

Lorenzen, a first-team All-Big West Conference honoree, was a threat in the middle of the Titan batting order last year, hitting .297 while leading the team in hits (69), doubles (20), triples (3), RBI (43), runs (38) and stolen bases (14) as the Titans' centerfielder. But it was on the mound at the team's closer that he proved his mettle.

The hard-throwing righty from Anaheim, Calif., closed out 16 ball games for the Titans and posted a stellar 1.23 ERA in 20 appearances without hardly any bullpen sessions. The 16 saves for the right-hander tied Nick Ramirez (2011) for the second most in a single season at Cal State Fullerton and moved him into the program's career Top 10.  Lorenzen had an opportunity to play for USA Baseball last summer.

As a freshman, Vasquez led the Big West in 2012 with a 1.93 ERA and started a team-best 15 games. The Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., native struck out 104 batters – the most by a freshman at UCSB since Barry Zito in 1997 – and held opponents to conference-low .190 batting average against. The left-hander was primarily the Gauchos' Friday starter and led the staff with 88.2 innings pitched.
