One school picked up its third straight weekly softball award, while one player claimed her fifth honor of the season to highlight this week's Big West softball weekly accolades. Pacific's Nicole Matson became the third straight Tiger to win a weekly award as she was named the Player of the Week, while Long Beach State's Erin Jones-Wesley claimed the fifth Pitcher of the Week honor of her freshman season.
Matson's Hot Bat Leads Pacific To Big Week
Nicole Matson had a torrid week offensively in Pacific's 3-1 week, netting her Big West Player of the Week honors.
The junior, who missed most of 2010 with an injury, batted .667 (6-9) over her four games last week, showcasing both a keen eye and a power bat.
Matson kicked off the week with a homer, two RBI, two run scored and two walk performance in a blowout win over Santa Clara, the first home night game in Tiger history.
She then continued her hot hitting in the opener of a three-game conference series against Cal State Northridge, falling a triple short of the cycle and knowing in three runs, scoring twice and walking once.
After she walked three times and scored a run in the game two loss against CSUN, Matson led the way to a series-clinching win in the finale. She went 2-for-3 with two RBI, a run scored, a walk and a stolen base.
For the week, Matson totaled seven RBI, seven walks, two homers, six runs scored and an .769 on-base percentage.

Jones-Wesley Wins Fifth Weekly Pitching Award Of 2011
Erin Jones-Wesley was practically unhittable for Long Beach State in its series against UC Davis, earning Big West Pitcher of the Week honors.
Jones-Wesley allowed just five hits over her 10 innings of work, leading the 49ers to wins in both of her appearances.
Her first start was a masterpiece as she allowed just one hit, struck out five and allowed no walks or runs in a 10-0 five-inning game on win.
Jones-Wesley went another five innings in the finale to secure another victory for the 49ers. She pitched the first five innings to pick up another W, allowing four hits, one run (unearned) and striking out eight.
