Bloetscher Sets New Career High, Scores Weekly Honor

A career-best performance by Abby Bloetscher lifted Cal Poly to a 2-0 week and extended the Mustangs' conference win streak to five games. Her efforts earned her Big West Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors, for the week ending Jan. 16.

Bloetscher came off the bench in the 75-72 victory over Cal State Fullerton to lead the team with a career-high 29 points. Along with her 29 points she grabbed 11 rebounds to notch her second double-double of the year.

The Three Rivers, Calif., native started against UC Irvine and recorded 16 points and nine rebounds to help the Mustangs sneak by the Anteaters by a score of 72-70. She went 6-for-7 from the charity stripe to increase her weekly free throw total to 15-of-17 (.882).

For the week, Bloetscher fired a .625 field goal percentage and averaged 22.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. Aas a team, Cal Poly (5-0) is off to the best start in Big West play since joining the conference in 1996-97.
