James Nunnally (Stockton, Calif./Weston Ranch HS) dominated the opposition with two career-best scoring performances, leading UC Santa Barbara to a 2-0 record and earning him Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors.

Nunnally averaged a monstrous 31.5 points per game in victories over Loyola Marymount (77-67) and Santa Clara (80-69) to give the Gauchos their first winning streak this season.

The junior set career-highs in points (29) and field goals made (11) in the win against the Lions.  He made 11 of 14 shots from the field and hit 4 of 5 from the three-point stripe.

In the road win against Santa Clara, Nunnally improved on his scoring career high with 34 points.  He scored 19 of those points in the first half when Big West leading scorer Orlando Johnson was saddled with foul trouble and played only four minutes.  Nunnally hit 8 of 11 floor shots, tied his career high with another four three-pointers and sank 14 of 16 from the free throw line.

Nunnally’s 63 points for the week are the most scored by a Gaucho player over a two-game stretch since 2006-07.

Others nominated:  Greg Plater (Long Beach State); Joe Harden (UC Davis); Darren Moore (UC Irvine); Sam Willard (Pacific)
