Pacific earned its first Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week honor of the 2009-10 season as junior Demetrece Young (Oklahoma City, Okla./Northern Oklahoma College) led the Tigers to conference wins against Cal State Fullerton and UC Davis.

The 5-10 point guard directed the balanced Tiger offense, playing in all but 12 minutes over the two games and committing zero turnovers.

Young also provided scoring punch for the Tigers.  In the 80-73 victory over the Titans, he scored a career-high 22 points.  Young hit 6 of 7 from three-point distance in becoming the first Tiger to record a 20-point game on the season.

In the 77-61 win against the Aggies, Young notched 12 points, three rebounds and four assists.  He made 4 of 8 floor shots, including 2 of 3 from three-point range.

For the week, Young shot 66.7% (10 of 15) from the field and 80.0% (8 of 10) on three-pointers as the two victories kept the Tigers atop the Big West standings.  Young averaged 17.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.

On the season, Young ranks No. 7 in the Big West in assists (2.9 apg) and No. 10 in three-point field goal percentage (.420).

It is the first Player of the Week honor for Pacific since Chad Troyer was selected on Jan. 28, 2008.

Others nominated:  Shawn Lewis (Cal Poly); Eric Wise (UC Irvine); Orlando Johnson (UC Santa Barbara)
