Lenny Daniel (Richmond, Va./Coffeyville JC) averaged a double-double in three Cal State Northridge victories to earn his first career Big West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week accolade.
Daniel posted averages of 13.7 points, 10.7 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game to help lift the Matadors to victories over Seattle University, UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton. He shot 46.7% (14 of 30) from the field and 61.9% (13 of 21) at the free throw line for the week.
A 6-7 forward, Daniel led the Matadors to a 98-90 triumph over the Redhawks on Monday with 11 points and 12 rebounds. He added two blocks and a steal as CSUN snapped a seven-game losing streak.
Daniel tallied 10 points, eight rebounds and a career-high tying five blocks to spur the Matadors to a 64-50 home victory versus the Highlanders on Thursday. It was the first Big West win for CSUN this season. The five swats was one short of the single-game school record.
The Matadors picked up their first road win of 2009-10 in eight tries with a 78-72 outcome against the Titans on Saturday. Daniel recorded his second double-double of the week - and fifth of the season - with a team-high 20 points and 12 rebounds. He made 7 of 12 floor shots and 6 of 8 at the foul line to pace CSUN.
Daniel led the Matadors in rebounding in each game and played 105 of 120 minutes for the week.
