First Time Winners Highlight Weekly Softball Awards

A pair of first time winners took home the weekly Big West softball awards as Long Beach State's Ashley Weber (Player) Cal State Northridge's Hannah Fraijo (Pitcher) claimed this week's edition of the honors.

Weber Leads LBSU to Key Series Win over CSF

Long Beach State outfielder Ashley Weber (Yorba Linda, Calif./Mater Dei HS) was an offensive force for the 49ers in their series win over Cal State Fullerton, netting her Big West Player of the Week honors.

The junior opened the series with a 3-for-3 effort, and scoring two runs including the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh.

Weber had three more hits in game two, two of them doubles, and knocked in two runs while scoring another. Her two-run double in the bottom of the fifth gave LBSU the lead after an early deficit. She finished up the series with a hit in game three, a double in her first at-bat of the game.

For the series, Weber batted .636 (7-11) with two RBI, three runs scored and three doubles. She also laid down her conference-high 23rd sac bunt of the season in game two.

CSUN's Fraijo Stymies UCR Offense

Cal State Northridge pitcher Hannah Fraijo (Irwindale, Calif./Northview HS) was stellar as both a starter and reliever for the Matadors last weekend, resulting in Big West Pitcher of Week accolades.

The freshman picked up the win over UC Riverside in game one after going 6.2 shutout innings, scattering five hits, walking two and striking out three.

Her services were needed out of the bullpen in the finale as she pitched 4.1 innings of relief in the 5-3 CSUN win. With UCR up 3-2 upon her entrance, Fraijo allowed just one hit, walked three and struck out two the rest of the way in the Matadors’ 5-3 comeback win.
 
For the series, Fraijo was 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 11.0 innings. She allowed just six hits, walked five and struck out five, while allowing opposing hitters to bat just .146.
