Long Beach State Picks Up Two wins on Second Day of Mayfair Tournament

A pair of strong pitching performances and the bat of senior Danielle Linke lifted the Long Beach State softball team (10-7) to a 5-0 victory over BYU and a 4-1 defeat of Wisconsin Saturday at Mayfair Park.

Ramos Ties UCSB Career Hits Record as Gauchos Split Doubleheader at Bakersfield

Senior second baseman Christine Ramos tied the UC Santa Barbara career hits record on Saturday when she recorded her 208th hit as a Gaucho during the second game of a nonconference doubleheader against Cal State Bakersfield at the Roadrunner Softball Complex. The Gauchos (10-7) split the two games with the Roadrunners (7-7), winning the first by way of a 4-3 score and dropping the second, 7-6, in nine innings.

Tigers Five Run Fifth Not Enough As They Fall 7-5 To Texas Tech

Falling behind early in the contest, the Pacific softball team suffered its second loss of the day at the Cox Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., falling 7-5 to Texas Tech on Saturday, February 28. The loss was the third consecutive loss for the Tigers and dropped them to 6-7 overall and 1-3 at the tournament. For the Red Raiders, the win improved their record to 4-12 on the season and 1-2 at the tournament.

Missed Opportunities Lead To A 5-3 Loss To The University Of South Florida

Playing their third game of the Cox Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., the Pacific softball team suffered a 5-3 loss at the hands of the University of South Florida (USF) on Saturday, February 28. The loss dropped the Tigers to 6-6 on the year and 1-2 in the tournament. The Bulls improved to 12-7 overall on the year and 2-1 in the tournament.

Mustangs Split Second-Day Slate at DeMarini Invitational

Junior lefthander Helen Peña matched a career low by yielding two Auburn hits and faced just three Tigers over the minimum as the Cal Poly softball team opened its Saturday doubleheader at the Cal State Fullerton-hosted DeMarini Invitational with a 6-0 victory at South Field. During the nightcap, Mustang sophomore lefthander Anna Cahn held No. 5 Stanford to a solitary hit through six innings, but three Mustang errors during the bottom of the seventh undid an early lead as Cal Poly fell to the Cardinal, 3-2.

Highlanders Fall 14-1 to #5 Stanford and 3-0 to Minnesota at DeMarini Invitational

After splitting a pair of games on the first day of the DeMarini Invitational in Fullerton yesterday afternoon, the UC Riverside softball team looked to pick up another win on day two of the tournament. Facing  No. 5 Stanford to begin the day, the Highlanders could only plate one run as the Cardinals proved their national ranking by defeating UCR 14-1 in five innings. In the second game of the day, UCR fell 3-0 to Minnesota.

Minnesota's Brianna Hassett allowed just four hits and struck out eight while a three-run fifth inning proved to be the difference for the Golden Gophers as they handed Cal State Fullerton a 3-0 loss on day two of the 2009 DeMarini Invitational at Anderson Family Field on Saturday afternoon.

UC Davis Tops San Diego For Day 1 Sweep

The UC Davis softball team defeated San Diego, 3-0, Saturday night to complete a sweep of action on their first day at the San Diego Classic I. Alex Holmes did most of the damage for the Aggies in the circle and at the plate as UC Davis improved to 10-3 on the year. USD fell to 3-10.

Aggies Defeat Utah Behind Hancock's One-Hitter

Senior Jessica Hancock threw a one-hit nine-inning shutout as UC Davis edged Utah, 1-0, Saturday afternoon at the San Diego Classic I. Alex Holmes drove in the only run with a triple in the top of the ninth as the Aggies won their fourth straight game and improved to 9-3 on the year.
