Johnson Guides UCSB To First Win Of Season; Nabs Weekly Award

Spearheaded by a career-best performance, Emilie Johnson (Loomis, Calif./Del Oro HS) led UC Santa Barbara to a 1-1 week, which included the Gauchos first win of the 2009-10 season, earning her Big West Women's Basketball Player of the Week accolades.

In Wednesday's matinee against Kentucky, Johnson scored a team-high 14 points and pulled down six boards. She tallied a .400 field goal average and was near perfect from the charity stripe, going 6-for-7.

Later in the week Johnson scored a career-high 29 points for the Gauchos in their win at San Diego, while registering six rebounds. The sophomore point guard hit five three-pointers, also a career-best, while playing all 40 minutes of the game. She hit a crucial three-pointer to break a tie late in the game then knocked down two of her free throws to secure the win.

For the week, Johnson fired .500 from the floor and .923 from the free throw line. She also averaged 21.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per contest.
