With a week off to prepare themselves, the Big West cross country squads are geared up for the final step towards the NCAA Championships as they take part in the NCAA West Region Meet this weekend. The regional championship is being held in the Pacific Northwest this season as the University of Oregon hosts the competition at Springfield Country Club in Springfield, Ore.
The West Region meet will feature clubs from the states of Arizona, California, Hawai’i, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon and Washington in a men’s 10K race and women’s 6K jaunt. The top two teams and four individuals unassociated with any qualifying club advance automatically to the NCAA Championships scheduled for Monday, November 23. At-large teams and individuals will be added once the NCAA determines the criteria following all the regional meets.
The league had one team, the Cal Poly men, and two UC Davis women’s runners qualify for nationals following last season’s regional meet in Stanford, Calif.
