Cal Poly junior
Lorenzo Keeler (Escondido, CA/Mt. San Jacinto College/Escondido HS) garnered Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week accolades as he propelled the Mustangs to a conference road sweep.
Keeler averaged 22.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game on Cal Poly's northern California trip, leading the Mustangs to wins over Pacific (76-60) and UC Davis (77-75). The Mustangs snapped a seven-game losing streak and orchestrated their first Big West road sweep since the 2006-07 season.
The week started with Keeler tossing in a career-high 25 points on 7-for-11 shooting against the Tigers. He hit four three-point baskets and sank all seven of his free throw attempts as the win helped Cal Poly recover from an 0-5 conference start.
Two nights later, Keeler posted a team-high 19 points, connecting on 6-for-12 from the field and going a perfect 6-for-6 at the charity stripe. He added three rebounds and three assists as Cal Poly defeated a red hot squad from UC Davis, which entered the game winners of four straight. Fifteen first half points by Keeler carried the Mustangs and kept them within four points at halftime.
For the week, Keeler shot 56.5% (13 of 23) from the floor and did not miss in 13 free throw attempts.
Others nominated: Jacques Streeter (Cal State Fullerton); Josh Jenkins (Cal State Northridge); Christian Soto (UC Riverside)
