The first cross country rankings came out this week and the Big West Conference is represented on both a national and regional level.
On the men's side, five-time defending conference champion Cal Poly opens up the national poll in the #21 position, while ranking fifth in the ultra-competitive West Region. The conference also claimed the #10-13 positions in the regional poll as UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara, UC Davis and UC Irvine are in the poll in that order.
The women's national poll saw preseason favorite UC Riverside appear in the receiving votes section, its first mention in the national poll in the program’s Division I history. The Highlanders are also highly regarded in the region with the #5 slot in the poll. Defending league champion UC Santa Barbara and UC Irvine claimed the seventh and eighth spots in the regional poll, respectively, while UC Davis (#11) and Cal State Fullerton (#14) also claimed spots in the regional rankings.
