Long Beach State's Chris Nelson homered his way to his first Easton Big West Player of the Week honor, while Cal State Fullerton's Jeff Kaplan received his second honor of the season and the Titans' second consecutive pitcher of the week accolade.

In Long Beach State's 4-0 week, which it extended its win streak to a season-long 12 games, Nelson belted a home run in each of the four contests, including a grand slam to cap off the week. In LBSU's mid-week contest at San Diego State, the Temecula, Calif., native went 2-for-4 and scored two runs, while driving in two more. In the weekend series at UC Santa Barbara, Nelson scored four more runs and drove in an additional seven. Sunday he blasted a grand slam as part of an eight-run 11th-inning rally to give LBSU the eventually 12-4 win (11) and the sweep over the Gauchos, to hold on to the top spot in the conference with a 13-2 record. For the week, Nelson hit .353 (6-for-17), scored six runs and nine RBI.

Kaplan picked up a pair of wins against Loyola Marymount and No. 9 Wichita State last week. On Tuesday, Kaplan came in during a tie game and worked two scoreless innings in his first relief appearance of the season. He was the beneficiary of a Titan seven-run eighth inning to notch his eighth win of the year. Saturday he posted his ninth win after holding the Shockers hitless for the first five innings of the game and guiding the Titans' to a 3-1 victory and a series win at Wichita State. The only blemish he had this week was a solo home run to open the sixth inning at WSU, which broke the no-hitter and spoiled the shutout. The Dana Point, Calif., native finished the week with eight innings of work (1.12 ERA), surrendering just four hits and striking out eight.

Others nominated for this week's honor were pitchers Evan Reed (Cal Poly), Wes Etheridge (UC Irvine) and Matt Montgomery (UC Riverside), centerfielder Logan Schafer (Cal Poly), Nick Mahin (Cal State Fullerton), outfielder Ollie Linton (UC Irvine) and shortstop Jaime Pedroza (UC Riverside).
