UC Santa Barbara's Jennifer Davis and Long Beach State's Bridgette Pagano were honored as the Big West Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, after their big performances against league leaders last weekend.
UCSB’s Davis Gets it Done at the Dish against Rival Cal Poly
UC Santa Barbara pitcher/designated player Jennifer Davis (Whittier, Calif./California HS) is known for her skills in the circle, but got it done at the plate over the past weekend as the Gauchos won a series from league leader Cal Poly.
The senior recorded a base hit and a run scored in every game, collected a pair of two-hit games and scored twice in two of the three contests against the Mustangs. She was especially dangerous in the 6-5 nine-inning win in game three, going 2-for-5 with a homer, RBI and two runs scored. She scored the game-winning run in the top of the ninth after starting the game-winning rally with a leadoff single.
For the week, Davis hit .417 (5-12) with a home run, a RBI, five runs scored and two walks. In the circle, she set the Big West all-time strikeouts record after collecting 15 on the weekend giving her 801 for her career. Davis is the only pitcher in Big West history to record 800 career K’s.

Pagano Keeps LBSU’s Postseason Hopes Alive with a Pair of Gems
Long Beach State pitcher Bridgette Pagano (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley HS) continued her stellar rookie season with a pair of outstanding pitching performances against Pacific last weekend to keep the 49ers’ postseason hopes alive.
The freshman's first start in the opener was a 1-0, nine inning victory over the Tigers. She allowed nine hits, walked two and stuck out three to earn the hard fought win over a Pacific club which entered the weekend scoring 5.3 runs per game and a .305 team batting average. Pagano gave LBSU the series win with her second shutout win of the series in game three, going the distance and giving up seven hits and a walk while adding two strikeouts.
For the week, Pagano was 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 16.0 innings of work. She allowed 16 hits, three walks, and struck out five.
