Kemie Nkele led UCR to season-opener win over San Diego.
At the Arizona State Classic, UC Riverside's Kemie Nkele posted back-to-back double-doubles to earn her first Big West Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor, for the week ending December 2. Picking up her sixth award of her career, Nkele moves into a four-way tie for fifth most all-time in the Big West Conference.
Against No. 18 Auburn, the 6-1 forward drained a game-high 17 points and collected 13 rebounds for her first of two double-doubles. Eight of Nkele's points were scored from the charity stripe, where she was 8-for-11. She also added four blocks and two steals to her total.
In the consolation game against Gonzaga, Nkele's perfection from the free throw line (6-for-6) lifted her to 23 points and secured UC Riverside's first win of the season. The San Diego, Calif., native also tallied five blocks and 10 rebounds to complete a double-double.
For the week, Nkele posted a .354 field goal percentage and averaged 20 points, 11.5 rebounds and 4.5 blocks per game. Her impressive numbers earned her a spot on the Arizona State Classic All-Tournament team.
