A double-double average for a week that witnessed UC Irvine going 1-1 at home, earned Kelly Cochran Big West Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors, for the week ending Dec. 9. This marks Cochran's first weekly award of her career.
On Friday, the West Hills, Calif., native led the Anteaters to a win over Nevada with a season-high 19 points and 11 rebounds, her third double-double of the season. Cochran scored five points in a 7-0 run with three minutes remaining to get UC Irvine back in the game and up by a point. UC Irvine went on to win the contest by a score of 77-74.
Two days later against UNLV, the 6-0 forward nearly missed a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds. She also added two blocks, two steals and a career-best three assists in 39 minutes of action. For the week she averaged 16.0 points and 10.0 rebounds, shooting .542 from the floor.
UC Irvine (4-5) returns to the court Saturday, Dec. 15 when they travel to Loyola Marymount for a 2:00 p.m. tipoff. The Anteaters have won four of the last six contests, tying the 2002-03 season for most nonconference wins in a season.
