Cal Poly senior Jessica Eggleston is named Big West Women's Basketball Player of the Week after helping the Mustangs to back-to-back league wins over Pacific and Cal State Northridge. This is Eggleston’s first honor of the season, second of her career.
In the 77-62 win over Pacific, the Oceanside, Calif., native produced her best offensive game of the season as she poured in 24 points, falling one short of her career-high. Along with her 24-point outing, she fired a 7-for-9 (.778) shooting mark to record the top single-game efforts by a Cal Poly player this year. The 6-0 forward also added eight rebounds, four steals and three assists to her season-best performance.
Two night’s later versus Cal State Northridge, Eggleston reached double-digit scoring for the 12th consecutive time with a 17-point night, hitting 6-for-12 from the field and 4-for-4 from the free throw line. She also proved to be an asset on defensive, grabbing seven rebounds and collecting two take aways.
For the week, Eggleston averaged 20.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, while shooting an impressive .619 from the field and .846 from the charity stripe. She was also 4-for-8 from behind the arc, which included a perfect 3-for-3 performance Thursday night against the Tigers.
Cal Poly concludes its four-game homestand Thursday, Feb. 1 when the Mustangs host future Big West foe UC Davis for their lone game of the week. Tipoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.
